The establishment of the department of Physics was concurrent with the college as a whole. In the beginning the department was housed in barracks with Dr. W.S. Barde as head of the department and a crew of teaching and non-teaching staff numbering 02 and 01 respectively.
The beginners are the torch bearers. It is really their hard work and perseverance that needs to be appreciated. Dr. D. R. Bambole and Dr. D. S. Thakare were the navigators who sailed the ship through rough weather. With a capacity of 200 and more students, department offers B.Sc. course at the undergraduate level. The department has produced a large number of graduate students since its establishment.
Department aims to be the centre of excellence by acting as a facilitator for knowledge generation and dissemination to produce physicist, researchers through rigorous theoretical and experimental training. In the recent developments in science and technology, department has been updated equipment available to facilitate the students to have more exposure in technical field.
To improve quality of higher education in subject, the fast learners are provided with extra facilities of learning and their goals are set at higher difficulty level. Slow learners are helped to understand the topics through extra contact hours. The department organizes Class Seminar Competitions for B.Sc. Students during every academic session.
The department organizes two Guest Lectures on advanced topics in Physics during every academic session. The department organizes Study tour for B.Sc. Ist, IInd and IIIrd year students during every academic session.
